Lake Markkleeberg Canoe Park
0 ReviewsThe white-water canoe park was built in 2006 as part of Leipzig's bid to host the 2012 summer Olympics. It is the second of two artificial white water canoe slalom courses in Germany, and the only one powered by pumps. It was completed in time to serve as a training facility for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Today you can do white-water rafting, power rafting where the water is increased and the channels are made narrower and wilder, or tubing which is the latest craze. The park is open from May to October and hosts a number of top competitions during the year.
Most courses take 2.5 hours in any weather. The first hour is outfitting and taking instructions on land and basic paddling exercises in the training pool. The second hour is on the course with at least 10 runs. This is nonstop action due to a modern conveyor belt system which means that you do not have to leave the dingy.
